Pioneers eventing team kicks off spring slate with trip to FENCE Horse Trials

Tryon, N.C. – The Transylvania University Eventing team competed this past weekend in the FENCE Horse Trials at the Foothills Equestrian Nature Center. The weekend competition marked the first time the Pioneers eventing team returned to compete in the spring 2017 circuit.

The Pioneers started strong on Saturday, with four riders sitting in the top five after dressage and five clear cross-country rounds. The FENCE Trials featured a very challenging cross course with many hills and difficult terrain; despite these obstacles, the Transy riders tackled the course well and came out ahead.

The competition continued into Sunday with each rider posting a clear show jumping round. The team finished the day with Hailey Patno placing fourth, Emma Masur third, and Abby Blackburn in second, each in their respective divisions.

The Pioneers were also happy to have Alumni Susan Mossman (c/o 1967) join them for the weekend, offering much enthusiasm for the eventing team.

Competing schools included the University of Kentucky, University of Georgia, Clemson University, North Carolina State University, the University of South Carolina, and Virginia Tech.

The Pioneer eventing team's next outing will take place May 25 through 28 at the Intercollegiate Championships in Lexington, Virginia.
