Delaware, Ohio. – The Transylvania field hockey team struggled to find a late goal as it dropped a 3-1 decision to the Ohio Wesleyan University Battling Bishops on Sunday afternoon at Selby Stadium.
With the loss, the Pioneers' record now moves to 3-7 overall, and 1-0 in Southern Athletic Association conference play.
After an early goal from the Battling Bishops, Transylvania responded at the 22 minute mark when a pass from junior midfielder Alyson Bergman found senior midfielder Jessica Chandler, whose shot evened the score at 1-1.
However, Ohio Wesleyan responded with another goal just minutes before halftime, giving the Battling Bishops a 2-1 lead at the break.
The Pioneers searched for a scoring opportunity throughout the second half. But Ohio Wesleyan added an insurance goal with just under two minutes remaining in the game, pushing the final score to 3-1 in favor of the Battling Bishops.
Transylvania junior goalkeeper Allyson Benz recorded six saves in the game, and continues to lead the SAA with 84 saves on the season.
Up next, the Pioneers will return home to face the Hendrix College Warriors on Saturday, October 7. The SAA matchup is set for a 12:30 p.m. start at Pat Deacon Stadium.
