Candy and Young lead the Pioneers into the third round at Jekyll Island

Jekyll Island, Ga. – The Transylvania men's golf team went on the road for the first time in the young 2017 season for a three-round tournament from Friday to Sunday at the Jekyll Island Golf Club.

The Pioneers shot a team total of 310 in the first round on Friday, followed by a score of 309 in round two on Saturday afternoon. The combined tournament total of 619 is good for 23rd place heading into Sunday's final round.

Senior Rob Canady and sophomore Blake Young led the way for the Pioneers scores 156 each through the first two rounds.

Candy shot a first round 76 followed by a second round 77 on Saturday afternoon, moving his cumulative score to +9 on the weekend. On Saturday Candy recorded birdies on holes one and seven, leading to a score of +1 on the back nine. Candy then scattered three bogies over the last nine holes, to wend the day shooting a +4 76.

Young's day was highlighted by shooting birdies on holes two, seven, 16, and 18.The +2 round of 74 pushed Young up the individual standings from 91st to a tie for 20th as he looks towards Sunday's final round.

Transylvania Sophomore Jack Berger recorded a +10 round of 80 on Saturday after turning in a first round score of 74 on Friday afternoon. After some rough play in the middle of his round, erger recorded a birdie on his final hole of the day.

Freshman Spencer McKinney shot a +8 first round 80 that was capped off by an eagle on 18. McKinney followed this performance up with a round of 79 on Saturday, good for a weekend tally of +15 going into the final round on Sunday.
