Spencer McKinney takes 5th place finish at Rhodes Classic, Pioneers men's golf finishes 6th out of 20

Tunica, Miss. – Junior Spencer McKinney finished off a tremendous weekend at the Rhodes College Fall Classic Tournament with a fifth-place finish while the Transylvania men's golf team finished the three-round competition Monday afternoon in sixth place on the team leaderboard.

Entering Monday morning's third and final round of the two-day tournament, McKinney shot a three-under-par 69 to finish with a three-round score of 209 for a top-five finish on the 104-player leaderboard.

As a team, the Pioneers turned in a third-round 290 to complete a three-round score of 870 to finish two-over-par for the week, good for sixth place out of 20 teams. No. 3 Huntingdon College took first place at the Rhodes Classic, followed by Texas-Tyler, No. 25 LaGrange, No. 15 Rhodes, and No. 13 Southwestern.

Senior Jack Berger also finished strong to complete the week at Tunica, taking 22nd place after shooting a final-round two-under par 70. Berger holed a team-high four birdies on Monday as he finished one stroke behind his teammate McKinney in the third round.

Senior Blake Young shot two-over-par for a 74 on Monday to finish in a tie for 65th place, ending the week 10 strokes over par. Young's third round was highlighted by a string of three consecutive birdies to finish his front nine.

Freshman Sam McNamara carded a four-over-par 76 competing as an individual; the freshman sank two birdies in his final round to finish with a share of 55th place.

Junior Harrison Lane matched McNamara's three-round score of 224 by shooting a 77 on Monday while delivering a team-high 13 pars. Senior Zach Treilobs finished tied with Young after shooting a 79 in Monday's final round for a three-round total of 226.

Transylvania's performance at Tunica marked the second top-six team finish for the Pioneers this season after a second-place showing at the season-opening Transylvania Invitational.

The Pioneers continue their fall schedule next Monday, October 1 at the Gordin Classic in Columbus, Ohio. Hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University, the two-day three-round tournament runs on Monday through Tuesday.
