Demorest, Ga.– The Transylvania men's lacrosse team used a tremendous three-goal performance by senior attack Zach Roby to defeat the Piedmont College Lions, 7-3 at the Walker Athletic Complex on Tuesday afternoon.
The Transylvania victory featured another stellar performance from senior goalkeeper Cooper Fogle, who collected 10 saves and eight groundballs while only allowing two goals in 56 minutes in goal.
Transylvania took control of the game early as Roby scored the first goal of the day just two and a half minutes into the game off of a pass from freshman attack Trenton Sneed.
The Piedmont defense held strong over the next 20 minutes as each team went dry. But with just over six minutes left in the half, a shot from freshman attack Brad Clements found the back of the net, extending the Pioneers' lead to 2-0.
Minutes later, freshman midfielder Jack Stevenson added another Transylvania goal, pushing the halftime score to 3-0.
After allowing a Piedmont goal early in the third quarter, the Pioneers responded as Roby scored his second goal of the day at the 11:04 mark.
The final period saw Roby cash in with his third score of the day, pushing the margin to 7-3 in favor of the Pioneers. Sophomore attack Collin Ruegg provided the final assist.
The Pioneer record now stands at 2-3 overall as they move into the Ohio River Lacrosse Conference portion of the schedule.
Transylvania next travels to Latrobe, Pennsylvania to face the St. Vincent College Bearcats in the second game of its spring break excursion. The game is set for a 1:00 p.m. start on Saturday, March 18 at Saint Vincent Turf.
