Transylvania swimming and diving wrap up first half of season at 2018 Transylvania Invitational

Dodds finishing race

Lexington, Ky. – The Transylvania swim team signed off on the 2018 Transylvania Invitational on Sunday night at University of Kentucky's Lancaster Aquatic Center with a blistering showing, led by the Pioneer women's squad which placed a fifth-place finish out of the nine teams represented at the two-day showcase.

Junior Sarah Haerle set the bar for the Transylvania swim team, recording a second-place finish in the women's 200 breaststroke championship final race. The junior touched the wall in 2:26.17 to help the Pioneers in collecting a valuable slew of points.

Freshman Lindsey Seaton grew stronger as the event progressed, picking up a pair of seventh-place finishes in Sunday championship races. Seaton had a 1:06.99 finish in the women's 100 butterfly and a 55.34 second finish in the women's 100 freestyle sprint race final.

Sophomore Emma Lloyd did her part to propel the Pioneers upward, taking seventh in the women's 100 backstroke championship final in 1:02.95.

Multiple Pioneers showed off their high endurance in a variety of races. Junior Mattie Fogle outlasted the majority of competitors as she took seventh in the women's 1650 freestyle race, completing the race in 19 minutes and 52 hundredths of a second.

Freshman Reece Arredondo replicated that placing on the men's side, recording a seventh-place finish in the men's 1650 freestyle in 17:10.71.

The Pioneer women earned another key placing in the women's 400 freestyle relay where Haerle, Seaton, Lloyd, and Fogle earned fifth place in 3:50.97.

The Transylvania men finished in eighth place as a whole while the Pioneers finished seventh at the Invitational on combined scores.

Sunday's sixth-annual Invitational wraps up the first half of the Pioneers' regular-season schedule. Transylvania next hits the water over the turn of the new year as they head south to Florida for the annual training trip in Miami.

The Pioneers' next dual meet takes place on Friday, January 11 as they host Lindsey Wilson College at the William T. Young Center on campus in Lexington.
