Lexington, Ky. – The Transylvania men's tennis team kept up their momentum in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play with a towering 8-1 win in their Saturday morning meet against conference foe Manchester at the Transylvania Tennis Complex.
Continuing their prosperous April roll, the Pioneers clinched their fourth win in five matches against HCAC competition. The Pioneers fell just one match short of their third potential 9-0 match victory against HCAC opponents.
Manchester nipped the Pioneers in the #1 doubles match as Stratton Smith and Spencer Thomas got by Robert Albrecht and Dylan Conner 8 to 6. But after that doubles match, the Pioneers made quick work of Manchester in just about every other match.
Zachary Meikle and Luke Groene held their ground in the #2 doubles match against Isaac Collis and Connor Eichenauer, winning 8-3. Joshua Buckman and Sam Hodgson took the #3 doubles match in a hard-fought 8-5 win.
In singles play, Albrecht exacted his revenge against Spencer Thomas, capturing a 6-1, 6-1 straight set victory. The rest of Albrecht's compatriots followed suit; Meikle took care of matters against Collis in the #2 singles match with a 6-3, 6-3 win. Conner got the best of Love in the #3 singles match with a 6-3, 6-2 victory, and Buckman upended Eichenauer in an entertaining joust, capturing a 6-4, 7-5 straight set win.
Groene and Hodgson finished off the day with dominant work; Groene took a 6-0, 6-1 straight set win over Garrett Bear, and Hodgson captured a 6-2, 6-3 result against Tyler Klein.
The Pioneers improved to 4-1 in HCAC play and now look ahead to a midweek match as they visit Mt. St. Joseph.
