Georgetown, Ky. – The Transylvania men's tennis team continued its stretch through a gauntlet of top-notch competition as it fell by the final tally of 9-0 to the Earlham College Quakers at Spindletop Hall on Wednesday night.
The Quakers currently rest in second place in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference standings with a record of 3-0, and 11-5 overall.
The Pioneers clawed with the Quakers in doubles play as the afternoon began, but couldn't gain necessary traction as the Quakers grabbed wins in all three matchups.
Transylvania senior Luke Groene tried to get the Pioneers going in singles action, but eventually lost by the score of 6-2, 6-2 to Vitalii Stadnyk in No. 1 singles.
After a trio of strong Quaker performances, the Pioneers came up with their best showing of the day when Transylvania junior Esteban Favetto heated up midway through the first set, but came up short by the score of 6-3, 6-2 to Nicola Manni in No. 5 singles action.
Up next, the Pioneers will travel to Defiance, Ohio to take on the Defiance College Yellow Jackets. The match is set for a 12:00 p.m. start at the Dix Tennis Facility.
