Lexington, Ky. – The Transylvania men's tennis team faced off against the Hanover College Panthers on Wednesday in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup, which went to the visiting Panthers, 9-0 at Spindletop Court.
The match presented the third HCAC match of the year for the Pioneers, who dropped to 1-2 in conference play while the Panthers improved to 1-2 in the HCAC standings.
The No. 1 doubles duo of seniors Luke Groene and Eric Sandknop tussled with Hanover's Brent Barrett and Alec Bates, coming up short, 8-5. Freshman Dylan Moore and junior Brandon Stofleth fell in No. 2 doubles, 8-1, while J.T. Henderson and Edis Sinanovic endured an 8-0 defeat in No. 3 doubles.
From the conclusion of doubles play, Hanover put its foot on the pedal to take all six games in singles in straight sets. Sinanovic rebounded in the second set of his No. 5 singles match versus Jed Fajt after enduring a 6-0 first-set loss by taking four games, but Fajt completed the 6-0, 6-4 win.
The Pioneers have four matches remaining in their regular season slate, continuing with a trip to Richmond, Indiana on Saturday, April 14 to take on the Earlham College Quakers. The Pioneers and Quakers will square off at 12:00 p.m. at the EC Tennis Courts.
