St. Louis, Mo. – The Transylvania men's tennis team wrapped up play in the ITA Central Regional Men's Tennis Championships on Sunday afternoon.
The three-day tournament hosted by Washington University in St. Louis was the first chance for a number of young Pioneers to see collegiate tennis action.
Transylvania freshman Noah McNamee, who was competing in the men's open singles UTR C section, battled Kenyon's Matias Mauviel before falling 7-5, 7-5 in the consolation bracket.
The Pioneers' final match of the weekend featured the freshmen duo of Arjun Gupta and Hugo Kouhkna, who dropped an 8-3 result to the Case Western doubles team of Kenneth Boyette and Earl Hsieh in the men's open doubles division.
"This weekend was a great experience for our freshmen," remarked head coach Kevin Calhoun. "We saw some of the best players in the country and competed well. We have a lot to work on, but the guys are excited and motivated."
The Pioneers will kick off their spring dual match season on Saturday, February 16 when they host the Sewanee Tigers at Top Seed Tennis Club in Nicholasville, Kentucky.
