Pioneers men's tennis comes up short at Ohio Wesleyan to start weekend road trip

Delaware, Ohio – The Transylvania men's tennis team picked up a 6-3 loss to the Ohio Wesleyan University Battling Bishops at Gordon Field House on Saturday morning.

The loss drops Transylvania's record to 3-7 on the season, while Ohio Wesleyan improves to 11-8 overall.

The Pioneers took a 2-1 lead after doubles play following a pair of 8-6 victories by the teams of Arjun Gupta and Hugo Kouhkna, and Nick McNamee and Noah McNamee at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Gupta and Kouhkna are undefeated as doubles partners as they have now won six straight doubles matches.

The Battling Bishops came storming back in singles play, taking five of the six singles matches to capture the 6-3 match victory.

The Pioneers' lone singles victory came via Nick McNamee, who prevailed in a grueling, 7-5, 3-6, 7-6 (7-3) No. 3 singles match.

Kouhkna's No. 2 singles match also went three sets, with the freshman falling by the final score of 1-6, 6-3, 2-6.

The Pioneers will be back in action tomorrow morning as they visit the Otterbein University Cardinals. The match is slated for an 11:00 a.m. start at the Otterbein Tennis Courts in Westerville, Ohio.
