Seguin, Texas – The No. 23 Transylvania softball team opened their spring break slate of games in Texas with a two-game split with the LeTourneau University Yellow Jackets on Sunday night.

The Pioneers fell to the Yellow Jackets by the final score of 5-1 in game one before bouncing back to claim a 5-2 victory in game two.

Taking the mound for Transylvania in game one was Kameron Bowling, who picked up the loss after walking three batters and giving up three runs in just three innings of work before giving way to Jordan Kramer, who worked three innings in a relief appearance for Transylvania.

The Pioneers seemed primed to take control of the game early on as Cece Wittry smacked a double into left field and later scored on a Brittany Mumford sacrifice fly to give Transylvania a 1-0 lead going into the bottom of the first.

LeTourneau responded with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the frame to take a 2-1 lead over the Pioneers.

While the Transylvania bats seemed to cool off, the Yellow Jackets manufactured another run in the third and added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to push the final tally to 5-1 in favor of LeTourneau.

Jessica Gunter made the game two start for Transylvania, striking out two batters and allowing just two runs in four innings of work. Bowling picked up the save after pitching three shutout innings in a relief appearance for Transylvania.

The Pioneer bats were on display in game two as Brittany Mumford and Alyssa Nunn combined to hit 5-for-8 with an RBI and two runs scored.

A Jordyn Powell bunt scored Nunn in the top of the first to give Transylvania a 1-0 lead. The Pioneers scored two more runs in the third via a Nunn single and a LeTourneau wild pitch.

Transylvania added a pair of insurance runs in the top of the sixth on an RBI single by Janelle Hynes and an infield sacrifice by Shelby Gambrell, taking the final score to 5-2 in favor of the Pioneers.

Transylvania will return to the field tomorrow morning, March 11, for a pair of games against the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Cru. Game one is set for a 5:00 p.m. Eastern time start at Ed Kruse Stadium.
