Lexington, Ky. – Laurel Major hit two triples and Jessica Gunter pitched her first career no-hitter as the Transylvania softball team swept the Centre College Colonels in a two-game series at Hall Field on Tuesday night.

Transylvania's bats were hot on Tuesday as the Pioneers tallied 17 hits in the pair of victories.

The Pioneers sent Kameron Bowling to the circle to face Centre in game one. The sophomore tallied three strikeouts and scattered five hits while allowing just one earned run in seven innings of work.

Transylvania took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second when Major blasted the first triple of her career into centerfield, scoring Taylor Stamps. The Pioneers doubled their lead in the bottom of the fourth on a Jessica Powell sacrifice fly RBI.

Centre tied the game with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth before a Brittany Mumford RBI single put the Pioneers ahead for good. Transylvania tacked on an additional insurance run to push the final score to 4-2 in favor of the Pioneers.

Game two saw the Pioneers take control right from the start and never look back. With the bases loaded in the bottom of the second, Major blasted her second triple of the day into centerfield to post three runs for the home team. Major scored later in the inning on a single from Cece Wittry, putting the Pioneers ahead 4-0.

Transylvania added three more runs in the bottom of the third via back-to-back RBI singles by Wittry and Stamps, and a wild pitch by the Colonels pitcher.

Becca Messing capped off the Transylvania scoring in the bottom of the third with the Pioneers' third triple of the night, a two-RBI shot to left field that pushed the score to 9-0.

With the sizable lead in hand, Gunter retired Centre's final six batters in order to clinch her first career no-hitter. The impressive performance by the sophomore included three strikeouts against just one walk in five innings of work.

The Pioneers will be back in action on Saturday, March 30 when they travel to North Manchester, Indiana to open Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play with a pair of games against the Manchester University Spartans at the Spartan Softball Field.
