Hanover 75 Transy 69

Hanover, Ind. – A career-high scoring night from sophomore guard Ashton Woodard was doused by a late rally from the Hanover College Panthers, who beat the Transylvania women's basketball team 75-69 on Wednesday evening at Collier Arena.

Woodard's 12-for-23 evening for a career-high 27 points added to a stout line that included 10 rebounds and five steals, but the Panthers outscored Transylvania 23-12 in the fourth quarter to pull ahead to victory.

With their first Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference loss of the season, Transylvania dropped to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play. Hanover improved to 5-2 on the year and 2-0 in conference play.

Wednesday night's game featured a wave of momentum changes as the host Panthers took a 21-15 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Panthers grew their lead to 34-27 with two and a half minutes left in the second quarter before Woodard began a personal scoring run with eight points in the final 2:20 of the half, including a buzzer-beating layup to thin Hanover's lead to 36-35 at the half.

Transylvania crafted a solid third quarter behind another nine points from Woodard and 3-for-4 shooting in the quarter from senior forward Rachel Cox. The Pioneers outscored Hanover 22-16 to carry a 57-52 advantage into the final quarter.

After Woodard converted on a layup at the 8:53 mark of the fourth quarter, the Pioneers endured a five minute and 45 second scoring drought, during which the Panthers surged ahead 67-61. A layup from Cox quelled Hanover's scoring run but the Panthers' Alexis Nall responded with a pair of layups to put Hanover ahead 71-63 with 1:45 to go in the game.

Cox finished the night with her second double-double of the season, registering 12 points, 10 rebounds, and four blocks. Junior guard Celia Kline was the other double-figure scorer for Transylvania with 11 points and three rebounds.

Transylvania will try to rebound on Saturday, December 9 when it hosts the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology Fightin' Engineers at the Beck Center at 1:00 p.m. Fans are encouraged to come early to Saturday's doubleheader for a special announcement from Transylvania Athletics.
