Greenwood, Ind. – Transylvania women's golf junior Lexie Lamar has been selected as the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week for Women's Golf, the conference announced Tuesday.
Lamar, a junior from Lewisport, Kentucky (Hancock County HS), turned in the best round of her career, a one-under-par 72 at the rain-shortened Rhodes Classic tournament in Memphis, Tennessee last Saturday. Lamar's noteworthy performance was highlighted by her front nine, in which the junior led off with six consecutive pars followed by three straight birdies.
Lamar's performance led a quintet of solid showings by the Transylvania women's golf team in last Saturday's first round at the Links at Galloway. Led by Lamar, the Pioneers finished third out of seven teams. Lamar finished in a tie for third place on the individual leaderboard, finishing ahead of 46 golfers.
This is the first conference player of the week award for Lamar and the second player of the week award claimed by a Transylvania women's golfer this season (Rachel Fine, September 4).
Lamar and the Pioneers next compete on Monday and Tuesday, September 24-25 at the Bay Oaks Country Club in Houston, Texas for the two-round NCAA Preview event.
