Houston, Texas – Senior Meredith Moir of the Transylvania women's golf team shot a five-over-par 77 to finish the first round of the D-III National Preview tournament in a tie for 10th place on the player leaderboard at the Bay Oaks Country Club on Monday afternoon.
Competing against a loaded field of 17 schools, the Pioneers as a whole shot a round-one 336 team score to end the first of two rounds in 11th place on the team leaderboard at the site of next spring's NCAA Division III Women's Golf National Championships. This week's tournament features a slew of teams which either participated in the 2018 national championships or enters the 2018-19 season as a championship hopeful.
On a challenging Bay Oaks course which saw all 101 players finish above par for the day, Moir hung in with a 77 to finish three strokes back of two golfers which currently hold a share of first place: Larisa Luloff of DePauw University and Annie Hay of the University of the Redlands, who each shot a round-one 74.
Moir finished her first round on fire, sandwiching one of her two birdies on the day between five pars to complete the day.
The Pioneers return to play on Tuesday morning for the second and final round of the preview tournament at Bay Oaks; the Pioneers are scheduled to tee off during the 9:00 a.m. eastern time hour.
