Granville, Ohio – The Transylvania women's lacrosse team's 2019 season concluded on Sunday afternoon in the second round of the 2019 NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Tournament as the Denison University Big Red defeated the Pioneers 19-6 at Deeds Field – Piper Stadium.

Making its second straight NCAA Tournament appearance and the second overall in the seven-year history of the program, Transylvania took an early 1-0 lead before the home team Big Red recovered to score four unanswered goals, creating a lead that it would not relinquish for the rest of the afternoon.

Trailing 4-1 with 22 minutes remaining in the first half, Transylvania battled back, scoring three goals over the next eight minutes to stay within arms' reach of the Big Red. Brianna McCulley scored on a crafty left-side shot by maneuvering around a defender to fire a high-momentum shot for the fourth goal of the day with 14:55 left in the half, cutting Denison's lead to 8-4.

But the Big Red swung back with its most pivotal stretch of the game, scoring seven straight goals to carry a 15-4 advantage into the halftime break.

The Pioneers settled down defensively into the second half but Denison matched Transylvania in that department as each team was stifled from scoring. A failed sweep by the Pioneers led to the ball trickling into goal for the first score of the half by Denison with 22:40 to go. The first true offensive score of the half came nearly 13 minutes in as Denison mustered a strong counterattack. The Big Red scored the first four goals of the half to place the game out of reach.

Transylvania showed off its offensive capabilities late in the half as Salem Carlow scored on a free position shot with 2:47 remaining in the half to break the Pioneer drought. Carlow finished off a hat-trick with no time left in the game to put the final score of the season onto the ledger for Transylvania.

Courtney Pontious added two goals for the Pioneers in her first NCAA Tournament appearance with Transylvania and commanded five draw controls.

Mackenzie Dent pulled in 17 saves in her final game as a Pioneer as Denison mustered 40 shots versus 18 by the Pioneers. The Big Red picked up 16 ground balls on the afternoon to 12 for the Pioneers.

The Big Red will advance to face Gettysburg in the third round of the NCAA Tournament while the Pioneers conclude their season with a record of 15-5.

The 2019 season for the Pioneers entailed their second undefeated conference regular-season and tournament title along with their second straight berth into the NCAA Tournament.
