Transylvania women’s soccer unleashes offense against Blackburn for 2-0 start to season

Cincinnati, Ohio - The Transylvania women's soccer team improved to 2-0 on the young season as it made use of strong offensive performances to secure a 5-0 victory over the Blackburn College Beavers on Sunday afternoon.

The Pioneers were led on offense by freshman forward Casey Hite and junior forward Maddie Sjogren, who each recorded two goals in the lopsided victory.

Transylvania's defense was stifling throughout the day, as it held the Beavers to only one shot attempt on the afternoon, while Transylvania recorded 18 shots on goal.

The Pioneers wasted little time in taking control of the game, as both Hite and Sjogren scored in the first 12 minutes of action. For Hite, the goal was her first as a Pioneer and collegiate athlete.

Early in the second half, this dynamic duo would combine to score two more goals just seconds apart, pushing the Transylvania lead to 4-0 with just over 30 minutes remaining in the game.

The Pioneers' offensive burst was capped off by a goal from junior back Gabby Prevost, whose strike pushed the final margin to 5-0 in favor of Transylvania.

The goalkeeper duo of junior Haley Blackburn and sophomore Sloan Cromwell combined to record a shutout in the Pioneers victory.

Up next, the Pioneers will travel to Mount Berry, Georgia to face the Covenant College Scots on Saturday, September 9. The match is set for a 3:00 p.m. start at Bob Pearson Field on the campus of Berry College.
