Transylvania women's soccer comes up short in home season opener

Lexington, Ky. – The Transylvania women's soccer team fell to the John Carroll University Blue Streaks by the final score of 3-0 at Pat Deacon Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The game served as the Pioneers' 2017 home opener, as well as the home-coaching debut for Transylvania head coach Luis Reis.

The game got off to an even start as both teams traded possession and offensive chances. Then, at the 28-minute mark, the Blue Streaks broke through the Pioneers defense and put the game's first goal on the board.

Just minutes before halftime, the Blue Streaks added to their lead as Rachel Braunegg's shot found the back of the net, pushing the halftime score to 2-0 in favor of the road team.

The Pioneers came out of the locker room looking to get going on offense in the second half, but still struggled to string together an attack, as the Blue Streaks defense continued to stifle Transylvania.

Ten minutes into the second half, John Carroll added the final goal of the game, pushing the final score to 3-0. Transylvania's record moved to 2-2-1 after Saturday's contest. The Pioneers

First touch between the Pioneers and the Scots is set for 3:00 p.m. at Pat Deacon Stadium.
