Defiance, Ohio – Two early second-half goals were the elixir to a 2-0 victory for the Transylvania women's soccer team on Saturday against the Defiance College Yellow Jackets at Winsper-Knobel Field.

After a defensive joust in the first half between the Pioneers and the Yellow Jackets, the Pioneers received two second-half strikes just after halftime to surge ahead 2-0 while the defense took care of the rest.

Transylvania improved to 2-1 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play and 4-6-2 overall following Saturday's result.

In the first half, the Pioneers began building their offensive attack, offering shots early and testing Defiance goalie Madi Bowman. Freshman midfielder Keeley Chaffin aimed on goal in the 14th minute but Bowman came up with the stop to keep the match level.

While the game remained scoreless in the first half, the Pioneers continued to occupy the front third of the field, intent on winning possession.

Their persistent efforts were rewarded when junior midfielder Bailey Browning found the back of the net in the 51st minute to hand Transylvania a 1-0 advantage. The Pioneers' aggression continued as freshman striker Casey Hite delivered just over two minutes later to put the Pioneers comfortably ahead with a two-goal lead.

The Pioneers outshot Defiance 19-7 on the afternoon while winning 12 corner kicks. Junior goalkeeper Haley Blackburn picked up the win for the Pioneers, her fourth shutout of the season.

Transylvania continues its march through the conference schedule with a match next Wednesday, October 11 at home versus Hanover College. That match is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start from Pat Deacon Stadium.
