Transylvania women's tennis posts come-from-behind win over Midway

Midway, Ky. – The Transylvania women's tennis team started the dual match portion of its season with a win, seizing a come-from-behind 5-4 victory over the Midway University Eagles Wednesday night at the Thomas R. Post Tennis Center.

After dropping two of three meet-opening doubles matches, the Pioneers recovered to grab four of six singles matches to move past Midway for the win.

A key match seized was an 8-3 win in No. 3 doubles for junior Kearstin Bruther and sophomore Lucy Herrington over Josie Hutchinson and Raquel Tyo.

After the Pioneers sustained a 1-2 deficit after doubles play, they rallied all across the board in singles competition.

Senior Mary Grace Amato led the charge in No. 2 singles, defeating Madison Chambers 6-1, 6-0. Fellow senior Lilian Williams followed suit in the No. 3 slot, winning her match 6-3, 6-0. The final difference came in No. 5 and No. 6 singles, as Bruther came up big again with a 6-0, 6-4 win against Hutchinson, and freshman Anna Burch winning her No. 6 match soundly versus Raquel Tyo, 6-1, 6-1.

The Pioneers moved to 1-0 in dual match play on the season with the satisfying victory.

Transylvania is back on the road this weekend, Saturday 9, visiting Capital University at 10:00 a.m., before trekking to Delaware, Ohio to face Ohio Wesleyan later that afternoon at 4:00 p.m.
