Herrington wins marathon, Pioneers women's tennis falls at Hanover

Hanover beats Transy 8-1

Hanover, Ind. – The Transylvania women's team experienced an 8-1 setback against the Hanover College Panthers Wednesday evening at the Zeddies Tennis Center.

Transylvania fell to 3-5 overall, and 1-2 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play following Wednesday's road match.

Transylvania battled Hanover tough across the board in all three doubles matches in the late afternoon to commence action, but the No. 1 duo of Alan Feeley and Caroline Millard of Hanover got the best of Seniors Lilian Williams and Mary Grace Amato for an 8-4 pro-set win.

As play moved into singles, the Pioneers tried to find momentum, but Hanover scored five more wins in six matches. Cami Jones fended off sophomore Merrick Irwin in No. 2 singles play with a 7-5 first set win, before pulling away 6-1 in the second set.

Transylvania sophomore Lucy Herrington captured the lone win of the day for the Pioneers in inspiring fashion against Hanover's Haley Parker, yielding a 7-6 loss in the first set before bouncing back to win 6-2 in set two, and 11-9 in a third-set tiebreaker that ended in near complete darkness.

The Pioneers continue HCAC play as they visit Defiance College on Saturday, October 7. The match is slated for a 10:00 a.m. start.
