Transylvania women's tennis team opens the season at DePauw Invitational

Greencastle, Ind. —The Transylvania University women's tennis team ushered in the 2018 season as the Pioneers competed in day one of the DePauw Fall Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

The bracket-style tournament saw the Pioneers face a number of strong opponents from various schools in both singles and doubles action throughout the day.

Among the highlights of the day for the Pioneers were freshmen Callie Messinger and Porsche Robinson, who each won their first collegiate matches.

Although the Pioneers struggled for much of the tournament's first day, head coach Kevin Calhoun took away some positives from his team's performance.

"While today's results might not show it, we really improved throughout the day," said Calhoun. "We've been working on being confident, trusting shots, and positive emotions. Those elements were all there throughout a long, grueling day."

Transylvania will return to the courts tomorrow morning to complete the two-day DePauw Invitational.
