Transylvania women's tennis dominates Manchester, earns 9-0 victory

Lexington, Ky. – The Transylvania women's tennis team opened the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference portion of its schedule in spectacular fashion by taking a 9-0 victory over the Manchester University Spartans at the Transylvania Tennis Complex on Saturday morning.

Leading the way for Transylvania was the duo of freshmen Porsche Robinson and Jessica Burton, who rolled to an 8-1 victory in No. 1 doubles play. The Pioneers continued their strong morning with a 6-1, 6-0 win by Robinson in No. 1 singles play, followed by a dominant 6-0, 6-0 victory for Burton in the No. 2 singles matchup.

Transylvania's lone senior Kearstin Bruther teamed up with freshman Alyssa Igyarto to earn an 8-0 victory in No. 2 doubles play.

The Pioneers wrapped up a sweep through doubles play with a hard-fought 8-3 victory at No. 3 doubles for junior Merrick Irwin and sophomore Reagan Jobe.

With the match in hand, the Pioneers continued to dominate the Spartans as Irwin and Igyarto each cruised to 6-0, 6-0 victories in No. 3 and No. 5 singles play.

Transylvania wrapped up the 9-0 sweep with a 6-2, 6-1 victory in No. 4 singles by Bruther, and a 6-1, 6-1 decision by Jobe in the No. 6 singles match.

Up next for the Pioneers is an HCAC showdown with the Rose-Hulman Fightin' Engineers on Saturday, September 22. The match between the Pioneers and the Fightin' Engineers is set for an 11:00 a.m. at Spindletop Hall in Georgetown, Kentucky.
