Anderson, Ind. – The Transylvania volleyball team picked up its first win of Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference with an efficient three-set victory against the Anderson University Ravens on Saturday afternoon at O.C. Lewis Gymnasium.
Transylvania improved to 11-7 overall and 1-2 in HCAC play after claiming a 25-16, 25-14, 26-24 win against the Ravens.
Embarking upon their first of two road matches for the weekend, the Pioneers wasted little time out of the gate, notching 14 kills against just three errors for a set-best attacking percentage of .324.
In the second set, the Pioneers grew more relentless, hounding the Ravens into a .086 attacking percentage and holding their attack in check. The third set featured a back-and-forth dynamic unlike the first two. Transylvania's clutch gene was activated as both teams came down the chute trading ties and lead changes. A kill from sophomore right side hitter Jordan Horne saw the Pios take a 22-21 lead in the third set, but the Ravens answered back with a kill to tie up matters at 22-22.
The set again reached ties at 23-23 and 24-24 before freshman middle blocker Ellie Stigger delivered a massive kill for a 25-24 lead.
With match point on the line, the Pioneers delivered as Anderson was pressured into an attacking error to finish up a tidy win for Transy.
The HCAC travels continue for the Pioneers as they head to Manchester University tomorrow to face the Spartans at 2:00 p.m.
