Lexington, Ky. – The Transylvania volleyball team opened up the home portion of its Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference schedule with a three-set sweep of the Anderson University Ravens on Saturday afternoon at the Beck Center.

The Pioneers roared to a 8-0 lead in the first set and never took the foot off the pedal, clinching a 25-12, 25-18, 25-18 win to move to 2-1 in conference play and 8-9 overall. Anderson fell to 1-2 in HCAC play and 9-11 for the season.

Transylvania received a balanced effort all around, picking up 20 team blocks along with 33 digs. The Pioneers recorded positive attacking percentages in all three sets, bolstered by a 10 to 1 kill to error ratio in the first set.

The Pioneers built another early lead in the second set, using an ace from junior defensive specialist Hadley Trenaman to cap off a 6-1 start to the set. Anderson answered back to cut Transy's lead to 7-5, but the Pioneers embarked upon another significant scoring rally with junior setter Hannah Talkers holding serve to stretch their lead to 12-6 before pulling away for the 25-18 win.

Transylvania erased an early 4-2 deficit in the third set to make it the final one of the afternoon. The Pioneers turned their two-point deficit into a 12-10 advantage following a kill from junior outside hitter Taryn Glass.

Senior outside hitter Jennifer Buckman came through with a sizable kill to strengthen Transylvania's lead to 19-13 and a kill by Talkers pushed the Pioneers to the brink of victory at 23-15. Sophomore middle blocker Ellie Stigger levied the final kill to wrap up the 25-18 third-set victory.

Stigger led the way with 10 kills while adding seven blocks and two digs. Talkers paced all players in assists with 27 to go with six digs and five kills. Junior right side hitter Jordan Horne added a balanced line of eight kills, seven digs, and three blocks.

The Pioneers will aim to even their overall record to .500 and vault into the top-three of the conference as they welcome the Earlham College Quakers to Lexington on Wednesday, October 10 for their next matchup. The HCAC match between Transy and Earlham is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at the Beck Center.
