Algie Reece was a vital part of Transy athletics, first as a student and later as a coach. He played football and basketball, and his skills at quarterback and halfback put him on the All-State team in 1932. He stayed at Transylvania after graduation and served as coach from 1934-35, 1937-42, and 1944-51. After leaving Transy, Reece became swim coach and an assistant professor of physical education at the University of Kentucky. He also was active in the community, serving as chairman of the Lexington chapter of the Red Cross and as president of the Kentucky Audubon Society.
