Leigh Oakley joined the Transylvania Athletics Department in September 2017 as Assistant Director of Athletics for Facilities.
In her role, Oakley's primary duties consist of managing the Clive M. Beck Center, which houses the home playing courts for the Transylvania women's and men's basketball team, and the volleyball team, along with the fitness center, recreational gymnasium, and indoor track. Along with the Beck Center, Oakley oversees Hall Field (home of Transylvania softball), and Marquard Field (Transylvania's official baseball venue).
In addition to overseeing Transylvania's athletic facilities, Oakley coordinates event management operations for Transylvania Athletics home events year-round. Special annual events which Oakley oversees are the Hall-of-Fame induction ceremony and the year-ending All-Sport Banquet.
Oakley's diverse background includes a blend of experience based in athletic leadership and administration in collegiate environments. Oakley joined Transylvania from the University of Kentucky’s College of Social Work, where she most recently served as an Administrative Services Assistant. In this role, Oakley oversaw event planning and execution, marketing and communications, and faculty support.
Prior to her three-year stint at the University of Kentucky, Oakley served on Midway University’s softball coaching staff from 2007 through 2014, the last five years as the program’s head softball coach. Oakley’s duties as a head coach were far-reaching, including coordinating fundraising efforts, hosting conference tournaments, statistical input, and acting as a sports information representative at conference meetings.
Along with her coaching duties at Midway, Oakley was a residence life director and coordinated day-to-day operations for the residence life office and was also the director of student activities for a six-year period at Midway.
“All of my life, I have been engrossed in athletics in one way or another and to join a group of amazing, like-minded people is a humbling opportunity," says Oakley. "What's exciting about Transylvania is the opportunity to assist and help ensure the future success of our student-athletes, coaches, and athletics programs."
Oakley graduated from Lindsey Wilson College in 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration. She obtained a Master of Science in Sports Management from California University of Pennsylvania in 2011.
