Transy rallies past Manchester, 3-2
LEXINGTON, Ky. - Transylvania freshman Hunter Jones poked a single through the left side Friday, driving home the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Pioneers rallied to take a 3-2 Heartland Conference win over No. 16 Manchester at Marquard Field.

The Pioneers (9-7, 3-1 HCAC) trailed the conference leaders 2-1 heading into the bottom of the ninth, but scored twice without making an out to snap the Spartans' four-game winning streak.

Kam Mason led off the frame with a walk and was replaced on the bases by Adam Daniels. Nick Edwards reached on an error while attempting a sacrifice and when Manchester failed to get the lead runner on a bunt by Pete Travisano, the bases were loaded. Pinch-hitter Ben Pelham tied the game with a single to center and Jones got the game-winner when he punched the ball between the shortstop and third baseman.

That made a winner of Graham Winchester (1-0), who went two innings without allowing a run. He escaped a two-on, two-out situation in the top of the ninth to give the Pioneers a chance. Winchester did not allow a hit. He walked one and hit a batter to go with one strikeout.

Jamie King started for Transy, goining seven innings and giving up two runs with seven strikeouts.

Manchester's Bryce Murphy, who came into the game with five saves, took the loss.

Both teams scored a run in the first and the Spartans went ahead with a run in the sixth. Transy outhit Manchester, 8-6.

Jones and Hunter Voshell each had two hits for the Pioneers.

The HCAC series continues on Saturday with a pair of games at Marquard Field, beginning at noon.
