Pioneers hold off Panthers, 7-4
HANOVER, Ind. - Transylvania built a 4-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth inning Tuesday and held on to take a 7-4 Heartland Conference baseball decision over Hanover.

The Pioneers improved to 19-16, 12-10 in HCAC play, while the Panthers are 15-20, 8-14 in conference play. With the win the Pioneers kept their hopes alive to qualify for next week's HCAC tournament, which includes the top four teams in the league race.

Shelby Dixon started for Transy and went three innings, giving up just one hit and no runs with five strikeouts and a walk. Jamie King went the next two inning and allowed three runs. Matt Morgan, Kameron Schwartz, Zach Riney, and Elliot Desilets each pitched one inning with Desilets getting his eighth save of the year. Desilets came in after Riney gave up two hits and had two strikeouts in the ninth to close out the game for his eighth save of the year.

Transy tallied two runs in the third and two more in the fifth for a 4-0 lead only to see Hanover put up three scores in the bottom of the inning to close to within one. But the Pioneers added three more runs in the sixth to clinch the win.

Riney and Nick Edwards each drove in two runs for the Pioneers and Riney also scored a run. John Michael Cowley and Hunter Voshell each had two hits and each scored a run. Kameron Mason had a hit with one RBI and two runs scored.

The Pioneers will cap their regular season with a three-game home set with Defiance, starting Friday with a single game at 4 p.m. at Marquard Field. The teams will meet in a doubleheader on Saturday, beginning at noon. Senior Day will be celebrated prior to the first pitch on Saturday.
