LEXINGTON, Ky.—The Transylvania University cheer and dance teams hosted a showcase for the Transylvania community over the weekend at the Clive M. Beck Center, as the teams prepare for an upcoming trip to National Cheer Association and National Dance Alliance in April.
“We could not have asked for a better showcase,” said head coach Tora Carter. “The showcase gave our athletes an opportunity to put the routines on the floor. There was a great crowd of family, fans, friends and athletes. We are overwhelmed with the support from our campus community.”
The cheer team will be competing in the Intermediate All Girl Division II and the dance team will be competing in the Dance Team Performance III. There are 20 teams in the cheer division and 14 teams in the dance division.
“I am very proud of where our teams are going into nationals,” Carter said. “We still have a week to make any needed adjustments and we will continue to build off the successful showcase as we continue our journey to nationals.”
Both teams qualified for nationals at the NCA and NDA college summer camp held on the campus of the University of Louisville in July. The 2015 NCA and NDA Collegiate Championships will be held April 8-12 in Daytona Beach, Fla. and will host more than 300 cheer and dance teams from around the country.
This year’s appearance marks the third overall and third consecutive for the dance team, while it will be the first time the cheer team has competed in the event.
