LEXINGTON, Ky. –The Transylvania University cheer and dance teams continued their success earning bids to the national competition April 6-10, 2016. Both teams competed at the 2015 national event in Daytona Beach, Florida.
Transylvania competed against teams from across the country for their chance to go to the national competition at the National Cheerleaders Association and the National Dance Alliance events held at the University of Louisville July 30-Aug. 1.
"Camp is one of the most important events we will participate in all season," head coach Tora Carter said. "It gives our athletes a chance to work together, bond and set season goals. This is going to be a great year for the spirit programs at Transy."
The cheer team was awarded the Collegiate Bronze bid as well as two superior awards for game day routine and one on rally routine. The team was also awarded the spirit stick—one of the top awards a team can receive. The spirit stick is given to teams "that exhibit all the qualities cheerleaders should have—heart, diligence, dedication, good sportsmanship, a positive attitude and teamwork."
The dance team also received the Collegiate Bronze bid as Stephanie Holstein, Peyton Thomas and Meaghan Allen received All-American nominations. The team earned an excellent award and a superior award, as well as the spirit stick.
"We are ready to begin our journey to the 206 NCA and NDA Collegiate Championships," Carter said.
