TUNICA, Miss. –The Transylvania University men's golf team improved six strokes in Monday's final round of the Rhodes College Fall Invitational to finish tied for seventh in the event.
The Pioneers moved two spots up the leaderboard with a strong round Monday to finish tied for seventh. Ninth-ranked Berry College won the event, as Southwestern University and Washington and Lee University rounded out the top three.
Senior Casey Gilligan and junior Nicholas McCarthy fired a two-round total of 149 to lead the Pioneers. The duo finished tied for 16th overall for the event. Senior Jeffrey Meade added a 155 for the event, while Blake Young and Clay Church posted a 160 total.
The two-round event was held at Tunica National, a 7,125-yard, par 72 course.
The men's golf team will return to action next week as they will travel to Columbus, Ohio for the Gordin Classic Invitational.
The Pioneers seek their 10th consecutive Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference title in 2016, after dominating the event last year by 47 strokes.
