ATLANTA, Ga. – The Transylvania University men's golf team improved their overall round scores by three strokes in the final round of the Royal Lakes Oglethorpe Invitational to finish tied for second overall in the event.
The Pioneers moved up one spot after shooting an opening round 296, lowering their overall team score by three strokes to finish round two with 293. This score tied the Pioneers with Lagrange College for second place. Spalding College won the event with a two round combined score of 583. Host Oglethorpe shot a team 590 to round out the top three.
Senior Nicholas McCarthy fired a team best 141 to lead the Pioneers and place second in individual score followed by Junior Rob Canady who followed with a 146. Senior Jeff Meade added to the second place score for the Pioneers with a 147, and Zach Treilobs fired a 147 followed by Blake Young with a 154. Hunter Cloud and Jack Berger rounded out the scoring with a 156.
The Pioneers seek their 10th consecutive Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference title in 2016, after dominating the event last year by 47 strokes.
