Columbus, Ohio – Junior Spencer McKinney's two-over-par 74 led the way for the No. 20 Transylvania men's golf team on the final day and third round of the 2018 Gordin Collegiate Classic on Tuesday afternoon at the Columbus Country Club.
Entering the day tied for 15th on the leaderboard, McKinney's round-three 74 completed a three-round score of 218, slotting him in a tie for 18th place to finish out the tournament. The junior began the day with five straight pars before completing the round with back-to-back birdies on the 16th and 17th holes.
Senior Blake Young clocked in second among the Pioneers with a three-round score of 225, shooting a 75 in all three rounds to finish in a tie at 36th place. Freshman Sam McNamara took 59th place with a three-round score of 234 to round out the Gordin Classic, while senior Jack Berger and Harrison Lane each tied for 62nd with identical score of 237. Berger led his teammates with three birdies on Tuesday.
As a team, the Pioneers recorded an 11th-place finish with a 303-297-307-907 score, finishing one stroke back of host Ohio Wesleyan University. Illinois Wesleyan University took the team title finishing 14 strokes under par.
Transylvania will next compete in its final event of the fall season, the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Preview tournament, hosted by Anderson College in Anderson, Indiana on Saturday and Sunday, October 20-21.
