Jekyll Island, Ga. – Spencer McKinney shot a two-over-par 74 to lead the Transylvania men's golf team in the third and final round of the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational tournament at Jekyll Island's Pine Lakes course on Sunday afternoon.
After an oscillating front nine that contained four bogeys, two birdies, and three pars, McKinney made par on all nine of his final holes to finish a conventional and consistent final round at Jekyll Island to pace the Pioneers on the 150-player leaderboard, finishing in a tie for 51st place with a three-round score of 224.
Jack Berger shot a six-over-par 78 in his final round which included three birdies within a four-hole stretch from the 11th through 14th holes. Berger made birdie or par on six of his final eight holes to finish in a tie for 62nd place with a score of 226.
Blake Young matched Berger's Sunday score of 78 and McKinney's total of 12 pars to finish with a score of 230.
Harrison Lane bounced back from a slow start on his first two Sunday holes to make par on the next seven, finishing with an 80 in the third and final round. Sam McNamara finished up the first spring tournament of his freshman career with an 86 in a round that included one birdie and seven pars.
Transylvania finished the tournament with a three-day score of 913, good for 21st place on the team leaderboard out of 30 institutions.
The Pioneers will continue their spring season on April 5-7 with the Camp Lejeune Intercollegiate Golf Championship in Jacksonville, North Carolina at Paradise Point Golf Course.
