Carmel, Ind. – Transylvania men's golf senior Spencer McKinney has been chosen as the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Golf Player of the week, the conference announced on Tuesday afternoon.
McKinney, a senior from Danville, Kentucky (Danville HS) had his best day of the year this past Sunday in the first two rounds of the Rhodes College Fall Classic at Tunica National in Tunica, Mississippi.
Playing 36 holes on Sunday, McKinney shot an even-par score of 72 in the first round and turned around with a one-under-par 71 in the immediate second round on Sunday afternoon. In his final round on Sunday, McKinney holed three straight birdies on the 11th, 12th, and 13th holes. In all, McKinney delivered five birdies in the second round and nine total on Sunday.
Over the first two rounds of play, McKinney turned in a two-round score of 143, which serves as both his best two-round and one-day total of the 2019-20 season.
His performance lifted the senior into a tie for sixth place on the 104-player leaderboard at the Rhodes College Fall Classic. McKinney eventually went on to take a share of 10th place for the entirety of the tournament, guiding the Pioneers into a 16th-place team finish out of 20 teams.
This is the second player of the week award of McKinney's career and the first won by a Transylvania men's golf player for the 2019-20 season.
McKinney and the Pioneers will wrap up fall season play on Monday, October 7 – Tuesday, October 8 at the Royal Lakes Invite in Flowery Branch, Georgia.
