McKinney finishes fall season for Transylvania men's golf with red-hot second round at Royal Lakes

Flowery Branch, Ga. – Spencer McKinney signed off on the fall portion of the 2019-2020 season for the Transylvania men's golf team with an even-par 72 in the second round of the Royal Lakes Fall Invitational on Tuesday afternoon to lead the Pioneers atop the player leaderboard at the Royal Lakes Golf Course.

After shooting a three-over-par 75 in Monday's first round, the senior delivered a 72 on Tuesday to turn in a two-round 147, good for a share of 36th place on the 102-player leaderboard.

McKinney led the Pioneers to a tie for 13th place on the 18-team leaderboard by finishing his final round of the fall with shrewd shooting on the last 10 holes, a display which included four consecutive birdies and five in total. McKinney's Tuesday 72 matched his second-best round of the fall.

The Pioneers finished tied with Ferrum College in 13th place as each team recorded a two-day score of 600.

Tim Alexander came in second among the Pioneers and in a tie for 49th place over the week with a second-round 77 to complete a two-round 149.

Jeb Brumley holed three birdies on Tuesday to finish with a three-over-par 75. The senior finished with a two-round score of 151 to capture a share of 57th place.

Harrison Lane carded an 81 in the second round to turn in a two-round 153 to finish in a seven-way tie for 66th place. Michael Collins rounded out the pack with an 81 on Tuesday to turn in a two-round score of 161.

LaGrange College's Ben Womack captured the individual title at eight-under-par for the tournament while Hampden-Sydney College captured first-place team honors, winning by seven strokes over Guilford College.

The Pioneers conclude their fall schedule and will return to competition in the spring of 2020 as they compete at the three-round Jekyll Island Invitational in Jekyll Island, Georgia from March 13-15, 2020. The Jekyll Island tournament will launch a pursuit for the Pioneers of their 14th consecutive Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship and 14th straight NCAA Tournament berth.
