Will Sallee is in his first season as the Transylvania men's golf assistant coach.
A former NCAA Division I men's golf standout at Eastern Kentucky University, Sallee joins a Transylvania men's golf program coming off a landmark year and preparing for a historic 2018-19 season.
"Will has the perfect background for becoming an outstanding golf coach," commented Lane on the hire of Sallee. "We have had several former Transylvania assistants go on to high-level Division I positions, including Matthew Martin at Morehead State, Justin Tereshko at Louisville, and Corey Maggard at Auburn. With Will's personality, his teaching, and pro tour caddying experience, he will become a great recruiter."
The Lexington native completed a stellar collegiate career this past May for Eastern Kentucky, posting a 73.8 stroke average en route to achieving Ohio Valley Conference All-Tournament Team honors. A three-time All-Ohio Valley Conference award-winner, Sallee took fifth place at his final OVC Championship event.
After graduating from Eastern Kentucky in May 2018 with a bachelor's degree in Sport Management, Sallee joined the High-Performance Golf Academy at Keene Run Golf Course in Nicholasville, Kentucky as a performance coach. In this capacity, Sallee mentors young golf students, teaching course strategy and swing skills, facilitating golf camps for students, and caddying for players. This past August, Sallee spent a three-week stint caddying for Lexington native and PGA professional, Hunter Stewart, on both the Mackenzie and European Tours, including the Nordea Masters and Czech Masters tournaments.
Since 2015, Sallee has served with First Tee Lexington, a local nonprofit organization with the mission of instilling golf's values, preserving the game for the next generation, and building sportsmanship with the establishment of a golf learning center for youth in the Lexington area.
As a student-athlete, Sallee was an eight-time Colonel Scholar and a two-time winner of the Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar as awarded by the Golf Coaches Association of America. Sallee trained as an understudy to PGA Professional Larry Ward at High Performance Golf Academy.
He also holds the distinction of being the only player to ever win the Lexington Junior City and Men's City Championships in back-to-back years.
Sallee's coaching expertise and familiarity with the Keene Trace Golf Club augments the Pioneers men's golf program as Transylvania prepares to host the upcoming 2018-19 NCAA Division III Men's Golf National Championships at the complex in Nicholasville in May of 2019.
"He had outstanding coaches in high school at Lafayette in Lexington and in college, and his work at the High-Performance Golf Academy gives him a wealth of knowledge to pull from," added Lane. "I'm excited to see Will grow into one of the top assistants in the country."
