
Lexington, Ky. The Transylvania men's lacrosse team opened Heartland Collegiate Lacrosse Conference play with a rousing 22-5 victory over the Hanover College Panthers at Pat Deacon Stadium on Wednesday night.
Transylvania made use of a balanced offensive attack throughout the night as 13 different Pioneers scored in the victory as the Pioneers hit their single-game season-high with the Wednesday scoring onslaught.
With the win, Transylvania's record improves to 4-2 overall and 1-0 in HCLC play, while Hanover falls to 3-2 overall and 0-1 in league play.
The Pioneers and Panthers traded goals over the opening moments of play, leading to a 2-2 tie midway through the first quarter.
Transylvania ended the quarter with a pair of goals from Nic Bailey and Quinn Fox, giving the Pioneers a 4-2 lead.
The Pioneers blew the game open in the second quarter, outscoring the Panthers 9-2 in the period. Three of the nine Transylvania goals were scored by Kayd Aquino, a new career-best for the sophomore. Aquino also grabbed a season-high seven ground balls in the victory.
Transylvania's offense kept churning into the third quarter, allowing the Pioneers to outscore Hanover 5-1 in the period.
Transylvania tacked on four more goals while holding the Panthers scoreless in the fourth quarter to push the final margin of victory to 22-5.
The Pioneers were a near-perfect 14-of-15 on clearance attempts in the game while holding Hanover to just 12-of-27 successful clears. Transylvania also dominated the Panthers in the circle, winning 25 of the game's 30 face-offs.
Transylvania will return to action on Saturday, March 16 as the Pioneers travel to Columbus, Ohio to face the Capital University Crusaders. The game is set for a 1:00 p.m. start at Bernlohr Stadium.
