Lexington, Va. – The Transylvania men's soccer team wrapped up non-conference play with a 3-0 loss to the No. 4 nationally-ranked Washington and Lee University Generals at Watt Field on Saturday night.
With the loss, Transylvania's record falls to 3-5 on the season, while the #4 Generals improve to 7-1-2.
Originally scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m., the matchup between Transylvania and Washington and Lee was pushed back to a 4:45 p.m. start due to inclement weather in the Lexington area.
Once the Pioneers and Generals were finally able to take the pitch, the two sides battled for control of the game throughout the first half.
Transylvania attempted seven shots in the half in comparison to 13 sent towards goal by Washington and Lee. However, neither team was able to capitalize, and the game remained scoreless at the break.
Then, in the 51st minute, the Generals rushed ahead with a score from Oliver Dolberg.
The Pioneers were unable to respond with a score of their own while the Generals added two late goals to push the final tally to 3-0 in favor of Washington and Lee.
Transylvania goalkeeper Drew Grisham collected three saves for the Pioneers in the loss.
The Pioneers will be back in action on Saturday, October 5 as they open Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play with a home matchup against the Anderson University Ravens. First touch between the Pioneers and the Ravens is set for 4:30 p.m. at Pat Deacon Stadium.
