Lexington, Ky. – The Transylvania swimming and diving team christened its 2017 home opener at the William T. Young Center on Saturday afternoon with a tri-match versus the Wilmington College Quakers and Wittenberg University Tigers.
Haerle was the star of the afternoon for the Pioneers, notching three wins in the women's 100 breaststroke (1:10.66), 200 breaststroke (2:33.13), and 200 individual medley (2:18.15). Haerle also teamed up with freshman Emma Lloyd, senior Kiali Jelinek, and sophomore Grace Galyon to take second place in the 200 medley relay (2:00.35) for points.
Dodds matched Haerle's takeaways as a victor in the men's 100 breaststroke (1:02.39), 200 breaststroke (2:19.33), and the 200 yard individual medley (2:05.37).
Sophomore Kelsey Stevens took first in the women's 200 backstroke (2:27.64) while Jelinek had a top-two finish in the women's 100 butterfly (1:06.03) to push the Pioneers to a solid finish at home.
Swimming at home for the first time under first-year head coach David Doolin, the Pioneers notched a win for the women's team against Wilmington College, while the men's team fell against both the Quakers and the Tigers.
The Pioneers hit the water on Friday, November 10 at home against Franklin College. The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference dual meet splashes off at 6:00 p.m. at the William T. Young Center on the campus of Transylvania University.
