Lexington, Ky. – The Transylvania swimming team wrapped up the home portion of its 2017-2018 season Friday evening in a dual meet against Centre College Colonels at the William T. Young Center.
Sophomore Sarah Haerle led the Pioneers with a trio of wins but the visiting Colonels came up on the winning side, taking a 346-137 combined score victory. The Colonels produced a 187-41 win on the men's side, while the Transylvania women fell to Centre, 159-96.
Haerle led the charge on Friday by winning soundly in the women's 100 breaststroke event as she touched the wall in 1:10.47, finishing nearly four seconds ahead of her second-place finisher. The sophomore kept up a strong showing with a first-place finish in the women's 200 breaststroke in one of her best performances of the season, finishing in 2:32.38.
The sophomore rounded out a superb night by winning the women's 200 individual medley in 2:15.93 to cap off a strong home season individually.
Freshman Emma Lloyd held her own, winning the women's 100 backstroke in a heated race; Lloyd led the way in a time of 1:06.01.
Senior Kiali Jelinek shined in her final career appearance at home, winning the women's 100 butterfly in 1:03.24.
Freshman Drew Dodds led the way for the Transylvania men, winning the men's 200 breaststroke (2:22.37) and the men's 200 individual medley.
The Pioneers swim team is in recess until the inaugural Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference championships, held in Terre Haute, Indiana. The three-day championship event begins Friday, February 9 and runs through Sunday, February 11.
