Lexington, Ky. - The Transylvania women's swim team picked up a victory against the Union (Ky.) College Bulldogs on Friday evening at the William T. Young Center to lead the Pioneers swimming squad in a dual meet.
Led by junior Sarah Haerle, sophomore Emma Lloyd, and freshman Lindsey Seaton, the Pioneers won against Union, 125-93. A shorthanded Transylvania men's squad fell to Union 177-34 as the Pioneers wrapped up their first of two competitions within a 24-hour period.
Haerle continued a strong junior campaign, winning races in the women's 100 breaststroke in 1:11.29, touching the wall just ahead of Union's Jessica Axford by .23 seconds. Haerle won again in the women's 200 individual medley in 2:12.15.
Seaton had one of her finest freshman meets thus far, capturing a pair of individual victories in the women's 100 freestyle (56.01 s) and the women's 100 butterfly (1:03.43).
Lloyd matched her teammates with a pair of wins in the women's 100 backstroke (1:04.53) and the women's 200 backstroke (2:22.57) to deliver the Pioneers a crucial collection of points.
Sophomore Mattie Fogle won another long-distance event, collecting a first-place finish in the women's 500 freestyle event (5:36.78).
The four swimmers then collaborated for a victory in the women's 200 individual medley relay, capturing first place in 2:03.07.
On the men's side, freshman Reece Arredondo was the ringleader for the Pioneers, winning the men's 1000 freestyle by 11 seconds.
Transylvania returns to the pool tomorrow as they take on Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference rival Franklin College in Franklin, Indiana. The dual meet is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. start.
