Men’s Tennis commences season with doubleheader at Sewanee

Sewanee, Tn. – The Transylvania University men's tennis team raised the curtain on their 2016 spring season Saturday with a grueling day-night doubleheader match hosted by Sewanee. The Pioneers faced off against Piedmont in the morning match, falling to the Lions 8-1.

#1 Nathan Metzger of the Pioneers took on 2015 all-HCAC player Robert Albrecht in the top-ranked match of the day. Albrecht jousted with Metzger in the first set before falling 6-3, and dropped the second set to Metzger 6-2 .

Transylvania salvaged a win in the number two doubles matchup against Piedmont, as Dylan Conner and Luke Greene battled to an 8-5 win against Harrison LaBollida and Brent Jenkins.

The Pioneers continued their doubleheader by facing the host Sewanee Tigers in the nightcap. Sewanee, who finished last year ranked sixth in the Atlantic South regional rankings, verified their reputation with a 9-0 win against Transylvania.  

Transylvania will look to regroup at home next Saturday when they open up the home portion of their schedule as they host Christian Brothers University at 7:00 p.m.
