Lexington, Ky. – The Transylvania men's tennis team won its second consecutive Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference match on Monday with a businesslike 9-0 win over the Mount St. Joseph University Lions at the Transylvania Tennis Courts.
The Pioneers picked up their second HCAC win in three days to move to 4-2 in conference play and 8-10 overall. Mount St. Joseph dropped to 0-5 in conference play.
Facing an undermanned Lions squad at home, the Pioneers took full advantage of inching upward in conference play with a strong showing on campus. Arjun Gupta and Hugo Kouhkna delivered an 8-3 win in No. 1 doubles to start the afternoon while Nick and Noah McNamee registered a clean sweep in No. 2 doubles. The Pioneers' duo of Daniel Cooper and Hunter Gregg won by default in No. 3 doubles as the Pioneers built a 3-0 match lead early.
Gupta raised his game in singles, winning 6-1, 6-2 over Nathan Clark in the No. 1 match. Kouhkna continued his stellar spring with a 6-1, 6-0 in No. 2 doubles against Guy Watkins. Nick McNamee finished with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles while Noah McNamee yielded just one game in a 6-0, 6-1 victory in No. 4 singles.
Gregg won by default in No. 5 singles while Cooper did the same in No. 6 singles.
The Pioneers will continue their homestand on Wednesday, April 24 when they host the Earlham College Quakers. The match is set for a 4:00 p.m. start in Lexington.
