Indianapolis, Ind. –The Transylvania men's tennis team saw its season come to an end following a 5-0 loss to the No. 1 seed Rose-Hulman Fightin' Engineers in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament semifinals at the West Indy Racquet Club on Saturday afternoon.
The Transylvania duo of Arjun Gupta and Hugo Kouhkna battled Andre Adam and Josh Giambattista in the No. 1 doubles match tightly before eventually falling to the Rose-Hulman duo by the final score of 8-6.
The Fightin' Engineers went on to pick up victories at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to take a commanding 3-0 lead as the teams moved to singles play.
Gupta opened singles play with a 6-1, 6-2 loss to Ian Landwehr, sending Transylvania to the brink.
In the No. 2 singles match, Kouhkna jumped out to an early lead with an impressive first-set win before Adam bounced back to claim the 0-6, 6-3, 6-1 victory, clinching the 5-0 match victory for Rose-Hulman.
With Saturday's loss, the Pioneers' season comes to an end with a record of 10-12, the team's most wins since 2013. During the 2019 season, the Pioneers also enjoyed its first advancement to the semifinal round of the HCAC Tournament in three seasons with the freshman quartet of Gupta, Kouhkna, and the McNamee brothers leading the charge.
