Anderson, Ind. – The Transylvania women's basketball team left nothing to chance Tuesday evening, winning 83-38 over the Anderson University Ravens at O.C. Lewis Gymnasium.
Transylvania moved to 3-1 as it devoured its first Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference opponent of the season in a one-sided bout.
The Ravens fell to 0-5 on the season as Transylvania claimed its first road win in its 2017-18 campaign.
After a quiet 12-9 first quarter start for the Pioneers, the visitors pulled away in the second quarter as they outscored Anderson 25-9. The Pioneers sank 6 of 18 three-point field goals in the first half to find their offensive boost while receiving a jolt from junior guard Taylor Jackson, who went 4-for-4 from the floor before halftime.
The Pioneers opened up the second half with increased execution, holding the Ravens to their third straight single-digit scoring quarter in the game as the Pioneers carried a 66-25 lead into the fourth quarter.
With the game well in hand, the Pioneers looked to their reserves to close the game; it was a clean-cut mission for Transylvania as all 17 players saw action. No Transylvania player saw fewer than seven minutes of gameplay and no greater than 22 minutes on the floor.
The Pioneers forced 32 turnovers by Anderson while only committing 16. Transylvania outscored Anderson 37-4 in points off turnovers to claim their 45-point win.
Tuesday's 45-point difference was Transylvania's largest margin of victory since defeating Bluffton 96-49 on February 21, 2015.
Three different players scored in double figures for Transylvania as sophomore guard Ashton Woodard led the way with 14 points. Jackson finished her night with 10 points while sophomore guard Shelby Boyle scored 10 points in 17 minutes of work.
The Pioneers will be on the road for their next game as they visit conference rival Bluffton University in Bluffton, Ohio on Saturday, December 3. Tip-off between the Pioneers and Beavers is set for 2:00 p.m. from the Sommer Center in the team's first meeting since Transylvania prevailed 61-55 in the 2017 Tournament semifinals on February 24, 2017.
