Jekyll Island, Ga. – Meredith Moir led the Transylvania women's golf team with a six-over-par 78 in the opening round of the Jekyll Island Women's Collegiate Invitational at the Jekyll Island Golf Club/Indian Mound course.
Moir finished the first round in a tie for 24th place among the 150-player leaderboard. The senior's day was one of consistency as she led the Pioneers with 12 pars to push Transylvania into a tie for 14th place on the 21-team leaderboard after the first of three rounds this week at Jekyll Island.
Lexie Lamar also offered a strong opening-round performance with an eight-over-par 80. Lamar led the Pioneers with four birdies including three on the back nine to finish at even par for her final nine holes. Lamar has a share of 36th place after the first round.
Rachel Fine converted eight pars in her first round to finish with a 12-over-par 84, good for a share of 66th place.
Transylvania is tied with Piedmont College as both teams registered a 42-over-par 330; both teams are currently five strokes out of the top-10.
Transylvania returns to play tomorrow at Indian Mound for the second of three rounds of play.
