Transylvania women's golf stands in fifth place after first round of Lynn Schweizer Invitational

Granville, Ohio – Lexie Lamar led the Transylvania women's golf team with an eight-over-par 79 in the opening round of play at the Lynn Schweizer Invitational, hosted by Denison University, on Saturday afternoon.

The Pioneers opened up their 2019-20 season with the first round contested on Saturday afternoon in Granville for the first of two rounds of the weekend tournament.

Lamar wrapped up the first round in a tie for sixth place among the 77-player field. The senior led the Pioneers into a fifth-place team standing on the 12-team leaderboard with 18 holes to go on Sunday.

Rachel and Rebecca Fine each provided the Pioneers with strong rounds on Saturday. Rachel Fine ended the day tied for 13th place after carding an 11-over-par 82. Rebecca Fine finished closely behind with an 85.

Kelli Harpe completed the first round with an 89 while Grace Chilton turned in a score of 96 in her first collegiate tournament action.

The Pioneers currently reside in fifth place after shooting a 335 team score in the first round. Transylvania is just 12 strokes behind first place Stevenson University.

Transylvania returns to play tomorrow at the Denison Golf Club for the second round of play scheduled for a 9:00 a.m. shotgun start.
